Art Exhibition And Sale Of Seconds And Remnants At Vanessa Arbuthnott Fabrics

Friday 27th and Saturday 28th July 2012 10am – 4pm

We’re busy tidying up the studio in preparation for our Open Studio Days!

Any opportunity to meet our lovely customers is a real treat for us and we do hope to see many of you on Friday 27th or Saturday 28th July. To encourage you even further we are offering 5% discount on all orders placed on the day!

Come and discover what inspires Vanessa and find out how her beautiful fabrics are produced. Take a look around the workshop and be enthused by our wonderful setting in the heart of the glorious Gloucestershire countryside.

Vanessa will also be giving short talks about her work and interesting journey from nurse to teacher to fabric designer! Talks are on both days at 12pm and 2.30pm and because space is limited it would be really helpful if you could book a slot. Just email vanessa@vanessaarbuthnott.co.uk and tell us your preferred time.

Please also email us if you do plan to pop in at some point during the two days, but do not wish to attend a talk. This will help enormously with our planning and ensure we have enough tea cups on standby and we may even be encouraged to don our aprons and bake cakes for everyone!!

We also have an art exhibition on at the same time, showing the amazing work of our artists in residence, a project we started at the beginning of this year. The artists have free living and studio space in return for taking art and craft out to vulnerable groups in our community... For more information about the exhibition and the artist’s residency please click here

LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU!

Smokeless Stoves in Nepal

This school now has a waterproof roof ...... and here are the smokeless stoves being built..

The project we are helping in Nepal, is called The Tilden Project. It was started in Tilden's memory by one of the most wonderful ladies you will ever meet. Her son Tilden tragically died in a motor accident.

Respiratory disease ia a major cause of death in Nepal and burns are common, particularly among smaller childern. Cooking is still traditionally done on open fires in a hole in the kitchen floor. The new stoves, made from local clay, provide a heat source and a place to cook, but the smoke is removed from the house via a chimney. A smokless stove changes a whole family's life giving them a smoke and fire free, living area. Vanessa Arbuthnott Fabrics is paying for the lady builder in Aruchour, where the project has now provided 800 stoves, to teach people from neighbouring valleys the necessary skills to build stoves in their own villages, 200 have now been completed. The costs only £5.50 per stove! For more info please see www.tildenprojectnepal.org.uk
