Are stripes a good design for Quilts?

While it's hard to remember a time when we didn't love striped material, the bold linear pattern is certainly back in a big way. Thick or thin, vertical or horizontal, in living colour or in black and white, stripes are like a magnet for the eyes, becoming an instant focal point. Striped material for Quilts is stunning. Stripes on fabrics are completely timeless and unlike bolder patterned fabrics you will never tire of them. It's because of this that they are quite versatile, giving you the chance to use them in other rooms of your home if needed.

The stripes can be bold in colour, such as the Stockholm Stripe or French Ticking, or on a cream background making them more subtle, such as the Simple Ticking Detail. Stripes on Quilts can help elongate a bed, which if it's in a small room can make it look bigger just by using shape alone. It can also go with practically any other design and will instantly complement it, be it a floral design or circular, stripes will always go.

They have the power to reshape an interior depending on how they're used; they add a crisp, polished feel to a space. Best of all, striped fabrics mix beautifully with plains, florals, and other patterns meaning they can be used just about anywhere. Striped soft furnishing fabrics can be elegant when they're tone-on-tone or wild when they're bright and bold and also classic when the stripes are the same width.

What other patterns complement and contrast with your striped fabric?

The striped fabrics look great contrasted with the spots of Pretty Maids. Also, each stripe is designed to coordinate with the other prints in the collections to which they belong, for instance, the Stockholm Stripe with Dawn Chorus, French Ticking with Flora and Fauna, and more.

Combining patterns is a terrific way to add interest to your room, and since all of our quilts are reversible, they all accomplish just that. Why not use Dawn Chorus as your main face fabric, a striped pattern on the reverse, and a plain fabric for the border as an example of how to mix your patterns? While there are a variety of designs you can choose from for your reversible quilt, employing stripes will ensure that it is timeless and versatile for many years to come in more than just one area of your house.
