Bringing inspirational photography<\/a> to you via our website and also through our brochures requires a little bit of planning and a whole lot of hard work and fun! This recent shoot is a true celebration of all my designs over the last 22 years\u2026this time combining the early fabrics with the new. Read on for a little insight into what goes on behind the scenes and some photos of fabric from our latest ranges.<\/p>\n

Here’s how we take photos of fabric for our catalogues<\/a> and website product pages.<\/p>\n

How We Start<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Firstly a suitable location house in chosen: it\u2019s really all about interesting windows, beautiful floors, natural light and enough room to be able to stand back and take the photos<\/p>\n

This May, our location was an elegant Georgian house, chosen mainly for its large sash windows, natural stone, wooden floors and painted wooden panelling. The next task was to choose the areas of the rooms to capture, taking photographs to remind us once we are back in the office, and most importantly measure the windows to make made to measure roman blinds<\/a>, roller blinds<\/a> and curtains<\/a>. Sally, our stylist, then produces beautiful hand drawn detailed sketches of the final scenes, which we work from.<\/p>\n

Next, Sally and I decide which fabrics, wallpapers<\/a> and furnishings to use in each shot, balancing colour, form and texture. This process is really not that dissimilar to painting a still life!<\/p>\n

The team back in the office then has the job of ensuring sofas<\/a>, cushions<\/a>, lampshades<\/a>, headboards<\/a> and any other piece of bespoke furniture<\/a> are made up in time for the shoot day and need to arrive at exactly the right time. These styles can sometimes crop up in our discontinued and sale fabrics,<\/a> so bookmark the page and keep checking back so you don’t miss out.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Gathering the team<\/strong><\/h2>\n

We are very proud of our creative team, they are really the best: Sally our expert stylist, Mark, our brilliant photographer, Tim, the forever helpful set builder, their assistants, and of course me! They all work tirelessly and effortlessly over the space of a few days to bring beautiful photography to you.<\/p>\n

Duck Egg and Orange Kitchen<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Roman Blinds in\u00a0Stockholm Stripe<\/a>, matching in with the bright orange coloured skirt, lampshade, and painting.<\/p>\n

Pink and Blue Sitting Room<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Taking centre stage are the Traditional armchairs in Lattice Leaf, whilst the Amberley Footstool in Plain Linen Union<\/a> works well with the pinks in the blinds.<\/p>\n

Orange and Blue Home Office<\/strong><\/p>\n

An embroidered fabric on the curtains in our\u00a0Malmo<\/a>, with a Tub Chair in\u00a0Little Fern<\/a>, and small Circular Pouffe in\u00a0Life and Eternity Detail<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Green and Blue Bedroom<\/strong><\/h3>\n

\u00a0\"\" \u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

Bed curtain in Lattice Leaf<\/a>, with Pleated lampshade and Quilt in Wild Fern<\/a>, piped in\u00a0Plain Linen Union<\/a> to match with the cushions and base of lampshade.<\/p>\n

Pink and Pigeon Sitting Room<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A Traditional Sofa with fixed back in Plain Linen Union<\/a>, with Ashcroft Footstool in Simple Ticking Detail<\/a>, and Wall Covering in\u00a0Shibori.<\/a><\/p>\n

Rose Arbuthnott Paintings<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Vanessa always brings a selection of her daughter’s latest paintings, this time its still lives, each one found a place in the new scenes, by chance mirroring the colours in the soft furnishings. It’s irresistible not to include these paintings, as they give each room a completely unique and contemporary look.<\/p>\n
