What style of curtain heading do you recommend for bathroom curtains?
You can choose your fabric, the style of headings and linings. A less formal heading such as a pencil pleat, cottage pleat or flop over frill would be perfect. The bathroom is a place where you want to be as warm as possible, so if you have room for curtains, make sure they are interlined and lined.
Choosing your bathroom curtains
It can be hard to decide what style of bathroom window curtains are right for your bathroom window. Bathroom windows can be all shapes and sizes and are not always placed in the most convenient places.
Curtains for your bathroom window are a good choice, if you're fortunate enough to have a well-ventilated room, you should be safe from the effects of steam and damp. Bathroom curtains can add drama and elegance to a bathroom (not usually the most dramatic or elegant room in a house), as well as cosiness and the visual interest of a pattern to look at whilst you are lying in the bath etc. for instance the story in my contemporary toile ‘For the Love of Rose’.
My woven designer fabrics can be made up unlined and perform like a sheer …with the light coming through the curtains yet giving complete privacy – have a look at my Wovens collection: Lapland Stripe, Baltic Stripe, and finally the favourite Scandi Warm and Cool.
Which of your designs suit a bathroom?
My 100% Linen and Linen Union designer fabric collections, particularly the stripes and spots, suit bathrooms curtains well, try my Simple Ticking, Pretty Maids, French Ticking and May Blossom. These will all make simple curtains adding a burst of colour into the bathroom.
Top tip! Fabrics with a cream background and a small pattern like my Lazy Daisy and also Pretty Maids with a cream background and yellow spots add a feeling of light and space to any small room.
My French Ticking design in Duck Egg and Denim and Clay and Sweet Pea make great blinds and curtains creating a seaside, coastal atmosphere.
Let's get started by selecting your fabric…
How to measure up for your curtains:
Please remember that pattern repeats and fabric widths are automatically calculated if you order through our web site. It is advisable to fit your pole or track before ordering your curtains. Your pole or track should ideally extend 30cms on each side of the window so when drawn back light is maximised and at least 15cms above the top of the window to block out as little light as possible again. Please use metric units only when measuring.
Width: If you have a pole, measure the distance between the finials. (A)
Finished Length for pencil pleat, triple pleat, double pleat and inverted pleat - when measuring the finished length using a curtain pole we recommend allowing between 2cms and 5cms above the eyelet on the underside of the curtain ring, depending on how much of the pole and rings you wish to hide. From the measurement you choose above the eyelet, measure down to the bottom of the hem (see B & C) and that is your finished length measurement.
Finished length for cottage pleat - these have to be made be a 3cm single position tape which makes the finished length non adjustable. To measure the finished length for this header, please provide us with the distance from the eyelet to the floor and add 5cm for the cottage pleat.
Finished length for flop over frill - these curtains have to be made with a 3cm single position tape which makes the finished length non adjustable. To measure the finished length for this header, just give us the measurement from the eyelet to the floor. Don't add any extra for the frill, we will do that.
Please note, we will add 25cm for hem allowance.
Width - If you have a track, measure the total length of the track, including any overlap where the curtains meet in the middle.
Finished length: For pencil pleat, triple pleat, double pleat and inverted pleat - when measuring the finished length of your curtains using a track add 1cm above the track (to hide the track) down to the bottom of the hem. (D)*
Finished length: For cottage pleat curtains - these have to made with a one inch single position tape which makes the finished length non-adjustable. To get your finished length measurement, just give us the measurement from the eyelet to the floor and add 5cm for the cottage pleat.
Finished length for flop over frill curtains - these have to made with a one inch single position tape which makes the finished length non-adjustable. To get your finished length measurement, just give us the measurement from the eyelet to the floor and don't add any extra for the frill as we will do this.
Please note, we will add 30cms for hem allowance.
