What plain fabrics do you recommend for lampshades?

We offer Plain Linen Union fabrics which are perfect for making lampshades, in many beautiful different colours.

Stylish, modern and utterly versatile, our Plain linen unions fabrics, work perfectly in their own right, as well as coordinating with any of our printed fabrics and Wallpapers.

For Plain lampshade fabric made in the UK choose from the selection of colours, from neutrals to softer shades of washed colours such as Duck Egg and Pigeon, sophisticated shades of grey such as Dove, Scree and Charcoal and brighter signature accents such as Sweet Pea and Saffron. They are suitable for any interior, from homes to hotels.

Our Plain fabrics are made from a linen and cotton blend, with the cotton giving extra strength and a degree of flexibility. The Plain Linen Unions are medium-weight and have a rub test of up to 36,000.

You need to choose the best colour for your lampshades by considering the way the room faces, the amount of light you get and the atmosphere you want to create.  Do you want a light and airy room or are you trying to create a warm and cosy scheme?

Think about using a contrasting colour for lining the inside, to add some interest, for instance a Sweet Pea Pretty Maids lined with a Stockholm Stripe in Sweet Pea.

Each bespoke lampshade is beautifully made in our local workshops by professionals, and hand finished with great care and attention. Our makers use traditional methods and take real pride in what they do. With Made to Measure, there is no need to compromise; you can create a unique look with your choice of fabric and those important finishing touches that will complement and co-ordinate your home.

There are four shapes to choose from: empire, drum, pleated, and candle (always sold as a pair), along with several size options. You can choose a second fabric to line the lampshade; applicable to drum lampshades only.

You can buy our fabrics in 10cm increments, starting at 50cm, and make your own lampshade. Alternatively, you can use our Made to Measure service and we will make one, especially for you.

Please ask for fabric samples and see the colours in your rooms. If you order a half metre returnable sample you can drape them over your existing shades, or just in situ to where the shade will go, and see how it looks. All our fabrics are printed in the UK on a good weight of 100% Linen, and Linen Union, making them suitable for lampshades, curtains, blinds, cushions and upholstery. We hold a good stock of all our fabrics ensuring delivery is usually within 3-5 working days subject to availability. The same team, who takes your order will roll, inspect and cut it, so accuracy and quality can be assured.
