Made to Measure Lampshades

Which of your fabrics do you recommend for red lampshades?

When people walk into a room lit with the warm glow of a red lampshade they immediately respond.

High octane red tinted tones make you feel energized and alive, while subtler, more old-fashioned purplish shades―burgundy, maroon, brick―can evoke the cosy, insular vibe of, say, an 18th-century library. Either way, red is a statement lampshade colour.

In an otherwise neutral palette, even a restricted amount of red can liven up a space. The brightest red fabric is called Tomato, where the Wild and Free, Life and Eternity Detail, Little Fern, and Stockholm Stripe incorporate this red and make beautiful red curtains.

Raspberry red is softer and a little more orange, making wonderful lampshades. See designs: Fern and Dragonfly with coordinate in Little Leaf, Plan Linen Union, and Botanical Trellis.

Cranberry red fabrics have more blue in them and go more towards a burgundy red lampshade fabric. Cow Parsley and Acorn and Leaf all have this lovely mellow red, warming up a room without being too strident.

Red soft furnishing fabrics are warm, cool greys, greens and warm blues are also possible complementary colours to use in a room to add interest.

Red stimulates the appetite, which makes it a perfect choice for the lead colour in a dining room palette, any of the red fabrics would work in this type of room, but maybe especially the Cranberry. Red adds drama to any room—even one as utilitarian as the kitchen.

You can buy our fabrics in 10cm increments, starting at 1 metre, and make your own lampshade. Alternatively, you can use our Made to Measure service and we will make one, especially for you.

Please ask for fabric samples and see the colours in your rooms. If you order a half metre returnable sample you can drape them over your existing shades, or just in situ to where the shade will go, and see how it looks. All our fabrics are printed in the UK on a good weight of 100% Linen, and Linen Union, making them suitable for lampshades, curtains, blinds, cushions and upholstery. We hold a good stock of all our fabrics ensuring delivery is usually within 3-5 working days subject to availability. The same team, who takes your order will roll, inspect and cut it, so accuracy and quality can be assured.
