Striped lampshades are always in fashion. While it's hard to remember a time when we didn't love striped material, the bold linear pattern is certainly back in a big way. Thick or thin, vertical or horizontal, stripes are like a magnet for the eyes, becoming an instant focal point.  

Stripes on fabrics are completely timeless and unlike bolder patterned fabrics you will never tire of them. Queen Victoria made them popular, after dressing her son Bertie in a striped sailor suit and this started the connection of stripes with words such as “marine” and “sea”. While the blue and white striped fabric combo may take us back to summer days at the seaside; the thin black and white striped fabric has a way of transporting us to the cityscape. Whether you use them in your home in a traditional way or in a totally modern and contemporary way, decorating with stripes is a great way to bring some order to your room.

Which of your stipes can I use for a Made to Measure lampshade?

The stripes come in all different colours, where Vanessa mixes greys with orange, blue and yellows, Teal with Tomato red, Damson pink with Scree grey…and many, many more. Both the colour and fabric of a lampshade influence how it diffuses light, so bear this in mind when deciding on your fabric.

All the striped materials can be used for lampshades: see the different stripes below: Stockholm Stripe, Simple Ticking Detail, French Ticking, and Stripe and Dash. Remember we can make Lampshades for you in any of our striped upholstery fabrics. I also have a range of woven stripes, woven on hand looms in a beautiful mid weight Linen. These make fresh and pretty lampshades.

Each bespoke lampshade is beautifully made in our local workshops by professionals, and hand finished with great care and attention. Our makers use traditional methods and take real pride in what they do. With Made to Measure, there is no need to compromise; you can create a unique look with your choice of fabric and those important finishing touches that will complement and co-ordinate your home.

There are four shapes to choose from: empire, drum, pleated, and candle (always sold as a pair), along with several size options. You can choose a second fabric to line the lampshade; applicable to Drum Lampshades only.

You can buy our fabrics in 10cm increments, starting at 50cm, and make your own lampshade. Alternatively, you can use our Made to Measure service and we will make one, especially for you.

Please ask for fabric samples and see the colours in your rooms. If you order a half metre returnable sample you can drape them over your existing shades, or just in situ to where the shade will go, and see how it looks. All our fabrics are printed in the UK on a good weight of 100% Linen, and Linen Union, making them suitable for lampshades, curtains, blinds, cushions and upholstery. We hold a good stock of all our fabrics ensuring delivery is usually within 3-5 working days subject to availability. The same team, who takes your order will roll, inspect and cut it, so accuracy and quality can be assured.
