Made to Measure Roller Blinds

Vanessa has created several bird prints that are the perfect scale for making into Roller Blinds, our feathered friends being one of Vanessa’s passions in life! 

She has binoculars in her bedroom and bathroom windows ready to catch glimpses of the nesting Kestrels and Red Kites in her barn’s nesting boxes. Small garden birds must be the most amazing creatures, taking weeks to create the most beautiful and intricately woven nests. 

Here are our bird print blind fabrics:

The very first bird design she created over 22 years ago is Cockerel and Spot. This bird fabric was inspired by the hens and cockerels in her garden.

This was closely followed by Up in the Air and Swallow Dive, featuring swallows flying and swooping in circles in the sky.

Dawn Chorus is a bird depicting stylised garden birds showing their delightful markings of spots and stripes. This 1950s style curtain fabric is inspired by mid-century designers such as Lucienne Day. It is possible to use these designs in both children's rooms and adult’s spaces.

The bird fabric Bird Hop was created by her younger daughter Flora; it depicts a characterful and friendly bird. She created this shape by cutting straight into a piece of paper without drawing first and this crisp spontaneous line is the result.

Song Birds fabric shows a small garden bird sitting amongst the foliage of hedgerow Dog Roses. This bird was inspired by a visit to Arbuthnott House in Scotland where Vanessa spied a very old woven silk, covering a chez-long with this beautiful black bird on it.

Branching Out and In Full Flight are two bird print fabrics which were inspired by lino cuts and printmaking. They show flying stylized birds set within a leafy trellis, the Branching Out design being the smaller scale of the two.

All these designs have interest and fascination for children and adults alike. The beautiful colours of these bird fabrics mean they can be used for roller or roman blinds in all rooms in the house.

Pros for choosing Roller Blinds:

GREAT FOR INSIDE A RECESS – Roller Blinds are a great option if you want to install a blind inside a recess because they are really easy to fit, lightweight, practical, easily adjustable with beaded chains (or ivory cord), and visually very stylish.

PELMETS - if you have your blind inside a recess, you can choose to have a smart, perfectly pattern matched pelmet that covers the roll at the top revealing the reverse lining; this is approximately 11 cm deep. It has revolutionised the use of Roller Blinds, making them much more attractive and usable in all rooms of a house!

MAXIMUM LIGHT – if you want to allow in as much natural light as possible, Roller Blinds may be the better option over Roman Blinds. With Roller Blinds, the fabric rolls up at the top of your window and will take up about 9 cm of space.

CENTRAL PULL – with a Roller Blind you can have a centre pull which can be handy on a window behind the kitchen sink. This comes with an ivory coloured cord and wooden acorn.

LOWER MAINTENANCE – once you have pulled up a Roman Blind you sometimes have to handle the folds as they can get caught in the cords, you don’t have this problem with Roller Blinds. It is just one piece of fabric that is adjusted with either a continuous beaded chain to either the left or right hand side of the blind, or as previously mentioned, a centre pull.

TREATMENT OPTIONS - We offer three different finishings on our Roller Blinds: Laminate, Blackout, and Processed. The laminated backing is a lining bonded onto the face of the fabric (no lamination takes place to the face fabric). Blackout is an off-white lining, which again is bonded to the fabric but is ideal for privacy. And Processed is just the fabric on its own with that has a clear stiffening spray applied to it for rigidness.

STYLISH IN DESIGN - You have a lot of creative freedom when it comes to the finished look of your Roller Blind. In addition to a pelmet, you can also add a 5 cm contrasting bottom border. Any of our other fabrics can be used for this, for example Gypsy Garland in Dove, with a bottom border in Stockholm Stripe - Dove, Winter. You could also opt for a Plain Linen Union in Saffron border instead, to go with the Gypsy, depending on the other colours in your room. The choice is yours to coordinate as you see fit!

Also, if you can’t reach the top of the window at all easily, a Roller Blind with a pelmet to hide the roll might be the right choice as you will have no need to reach the top ever. The maximum size for roller and roman blinds is 240cm x 240cm.
