Made to Measure Quilts

In addition to conjuring images of the daffodils that bloom in our gardens and the surrounding countryside in the spring, yellow also symbolizes warmth and joy, which is appropriate given that Vanessa draws most of her inspiration from the nature around her and is, as a result, represented in her two favourite fabrics for this past month. 

Song Birds is one of Vanessa's earliest designs she created as part of the Meadow Collection. Printed on a wonderfully soft Linen Union fabric, a mixture of linen and organic cotton, the pattern makes for an equally soft design creating impact with its vibrant Buttercup yellow colour. The repetitive patterns of the birds perched on delicate foliage are broken up by soft, cream-coloured wavy swirls, creating a beautiful vertical effect that is ideal for quilts. The addition of both the Charcoal and Clay greys brings everything to life and completes the look by providing depth. The vibrancy of the quilt will draw people's attention to it right away, making it the main focal point of your room. But keep in mind that you can use up to three different fabrics to make your unique quilt. So, when creating your mood board, think about contrasting colours like anything in the blue or purple colour palettes, as well as complementary colours like soft greens and greys that go well with the Buttercup.

Since both fabrics have a vertical pattern, they will help elongate the bed, which will give the sense of a larger space, especially if your room is small. Scatter cushions can also assist in appropriately dressing the bed, so keep that in mind when considering a quilt. Lampshades for the ceiling and bedside tables, as well as similar upholstery fabric for the headboard, would be the perfect finishing touches for the overall design scheme.
